What Happens When You Book a Handyman in Epsom
If you've never hired a handyman before — or you've been let down by a tradesman who never showed up — you might not be sure what to expect. I get it. Here's exactly how the process works when you book with me, from that first message through to the finished job.
Getting in Touch
The easiest way to reach me is through the contact form on my website — it only takes a minute and means I've got all the details I need from the off. If you'd rather pick up the phone or send a WhatsApp, that works just as well. Whatever's easiest for you.
I aim to get back to every enquiry within 24 hours. Usually it's sooner than that.
The Quote Visit
Before any work begins, I'll come out and take a look at the job in person. This visit is straightforward — I want to see what I'm working with, understand exactly what you need, and give you an honest quote before you commit to anything.
There's no pressure and no obligation. If you're happy with the quote, we book a date. If you've got a few other jobs you've been meaning to sort, this is a good time to mention them too — I'll often be able to give you a sense of whether I can tackle everything in one visit.
Turning Up — Actually Turning Up
I know this sounds like it should go without saying, but I hear from a lot of customers who've waited in for tradespeople who never materialised. One customer in Ashtead told me she'd had two no-shows from other tradesmen before she found me — she was genuinely surprised when I arrived at the agreed time. That sort of thing shouldn't be unusual, but I understand why it stands out.
I'll confirm the booking, and you'll know when to expect me.

On the Day
I bring everything I need with me. For most small jobs and repairs, I'll have the tools and materials in the van — no waiting around while I nip out for parts.
Before I start, I put down dustsheets and take care of anything nearby that could get in the way. I work tidily as I go, and once the job's done I'll leave the space as clean as I found it — usually cleaner.
I also do a quick check of the finished work before I call it done. Not because I expect problems, but because I'd rather catch anything worth catching before I leave than have you notice it afterwards.
The Job List Effect
Something that happens fairly regularly — and I take it as a good sign — is that once a job is finished, a second list appears. It's usually been sitting in a drawer or on a phone note for months. A loose banister, a blind that won't stay up, a gate latch that's been stiff since last winter.
Because I work across a range of trades — carpentry, painting, minor plumbing, fixtures and fittings — there's a reasonable chance I can deal with most of what's on that list in the same visit, or plan a return trip to work through it properly.
A lot of my customers in Ewell, Stoneleigh, and across the Epsom area keep my number for exactly this reason. When something else comes up, they know who to call.
What I'm Not
I'm not a building firm. I don't quote for extensions, structural work, or full renovations. What I do is the smaller, skilled work that most big builders won't touch — and I do it properly, with the same care and attention I'd bring to any job.
If you're not sure whether your job fits what I do, just ask. I'll always tell you honestly.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can you get booked in? It varies depending on what's in the diary, but I always try to get out for a quote visit promptly and work around what suits you.
Do I need to be home while the work is being done? For most jobs, yes — but if you need to pop out, that's usually fine once we've spoken about the work. Several of my regular customers are comfortable leaving me to it.
Do you charge for the quote visit? No. The visit is so I can see the job properly and give you an accurate price. There's no charge for that.
What areas do you cover? I'm based in Epsom and take on jobs across the surrounding area — Ewell, Ashtead, Stoneleigh, Cheam, and further into Surrey depending on the job.
What if I only have one small job? That's absolutely fine — small jobs are exactly what I'm here for. No job is too minor if it needs doing properly.
Can you handle multiple jobs in one visit? Often, yes. If you've got a list of things to sort, mention them when you get in touch and I'll let you know what we can realistically get through.
If you're in Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead, or anywhere nearby and you've got jobs that need sorting, I'd be glad to help. Get in touch here and I'll be back to you within 24 hours.
